This is the smallest, lightest, and cheapest SteadiCam that I’ve seen so far. Ken Robinson is shooting behind the scenes video for David’s Bridal.

He’s using the Flycam 5000 with Comfort Arm vest and 20″ arm. Online it retails for 799$, but Ken got his used for $650. That makes it a deal.

On set with Joshua Jordan.

Last night I had to crack open my 24″ iMac. At first it seemed like a dead hard drive, I replaced it, and the problems continued. It’s over at Mikey’s Hookup now getting the Video Card replaced. Fingers crossed that does the trick.

The Aluminum casing on the iMac comes off pretty easily. Just requires some patience as there are about 2 dozen screws to remove.

I booted up before I put the casing back on and I discovered that the WiFi antenna was receiving signal from a huge number of networks. After placing the casing back on there were only the normal networks.

Pretty big design flaw if the case of the computer itself is blocking the antenna….. I think that they updated this now and actually use the body as an antenna.

Here’s a sweet rig for mobile video shooting. Bob Berger shot news coverage for CNN with cameras that weighed 10 times this much, but now his rig weighs under 5 pounds.

This spyderbrace is made of light weight PVC and costs just 80$ on their website. The right and left handle let you balance the your camera, and the middle rod hangs below to hold counterweights to steady your camera.

Bob uses the Canon XA10 video camera when he shoots live footage of music because he can shoot continuously without cutting out when files hit the 2gb cap of most DSLRs. At $1899 it’s a pretty good value too.

Bob has his camera outfitted with a hoodman and Varizoom remote under his right thumb.

I’m looking forward to seeing some videos of Old Rugged Sauce from their performances at The Brooklyn Rod and Gun Club.

This 28mm Zeiss compact prime has geared focus and aperture for smooth movements. Speaking of smooth movements…….

The Equipment room at P-59 is looking very updated. Including what I would estimate to be 40 new Pro8A power packs.

Finally an update on the crappy pet peeve of every photographer on the planet.  The new series of Mini Sync transmitters from pocket wizard aren’t likely to break off like the old model.

Only question is will they work?

I did a terrible job photographing this stuff, but the Optimo Angenieux 24-290mm lens is tack sharp.  It’s an all in one full range lens with T2.8 throughout.  Perfect for everything except hand held!

At $70,000, it should be all you need.  Also the Alexa is really coming on strong, I see more of these on film shoots than RED.  Real DP’s prefer it.

The Matthews MAX Monstro stand looks like Gym equipment from the 70′s but it gives the best clearance and most solid base of any boom.  Supports up to 75 lbs too.

Most US airlines haven’t been updated since the 80′s, and still have no smoking signs on the ash trays.  Avianca is a bran new airline, and while they may lose your bags, they have super modes USB power outlets at every seat.
